LIGHTROOM CC How do I change or create keyboard shortcuts?

If you’re using the English version of Lightroom with a keyboard in another language, as I do, you may encounter issues with some keyboard shortcuts not functioning correctly in LIGHTROOM CC. So, how can you change or create keyboard shortcuts to address this?

Referencing the instructions provided in this article (https://www.lightroomqueen.com/custom-keyboard-shortcuts/), I created my own keyboard shortcuts and modified the “Library Module Shortcuts” in the “Help Menu” to remember the assigned keys.

Here are the steps I followed to edit Lightroom’s TranslatedStrings file and assign F3 & F4 to rotate pictures in the Library Window:

  1. Create a plain text file in the folder of your choice and name it TranslatedStrings_Lr_en_US.txt. Use a plain text editor such as TextEdit on Mac.
  2. Open the folder Ressources of ADOBE LIGHTROOM (select the application, right click to Show the Package Contents)
  3. In another text editor window, open the TranslatedStrings file for another language, for example, TranslatedStrings_Lr_FR.txt from the fr.lproj folder
  4. Find the lines, as shown in the provided picture, to “update” the Help Menu and remember the keyboard shortcut keys.

  5. Copy these lines to your TranslatedStrings_Lr_en_US.txt file
  6. Modify the copied lines as desired after the sign “=” (e.g., F3 by DG (title) and F3 (the shortcut key)).
  7. Close Lightroom Classic (LRC) and reopen it.
  8. Open the LRC Library Shortcuts Menu to view the modificationsLearn how to change or create keyboard shortcuts with ease, enhancing your editing workflow with a foreign language keyboard.
  9. Find the lines, as per the provided picture, to “update” the Keyboard shortcut Keys.
  10. Copy these lines to your TranslatedStrings_Lr_en_US.txt file
  11. Modify the copied lines as desired after the sign “=” (e.g., Shift+w by F3 and Shift+q by F4).
  12. Copy the file to the en.lproj folder. The full path /Applications/Adobe Lightroom Classic/Adobe Lightroom Classic.app/Contents/Resources/en.lproj
  13. Save the file, and keep a copy somewhere, as it may be replaced during Lightroom updates.

Et voilà! Just close and re-open Lightroom Classic to enjoy the changes.
